Black Table

The colors in this painting by Alexei von Jawlensky from 1901 are tremendous. The way that they make the non-moving objects uncanny in that they seem unstable due to what feel likes motion is exactly what draws you into the interior. On part of one side the table melts into the background and the pink plate begins to float.
